Shopping for Art, Antiques and Collectibles

Find special treasures and enjoy the thrill of the hunt in St. Pete/Clearwater's charming arts and antiques galleries.

With so many artists in the St. Pete/Clearwater area, it’s easy to score a beautiful, one-of-a-kind creation to take back home.

St. Petersburg

One of famed artist P. Buckley Moss’ most extensive collections is housed in the Finn Gallery facing Beach Drive in downtown St. Petersburg's art hub. Moss is known for an inspiring, upbeat style that blends figurative imagery - nature scenes, built structures, people and animals - with expressionistic/impressionistic techniques and symbolism. The gallery includes her oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed media works, etchings and giclée.

Those looking for more variety can find both emergent and established fine artists just south of downtown St. Pete at Salt Creek Artworks during openings and other special events held from October to May.

The St. Petersburg Clay Company, located at the refurbished Historic Seaboard Coastline Freight Depot, offers pottery by artists-in-residence and member artists at regular openings and receptions. A great time to browse the gallery is during the monthly St. Petersburg Second Saturday Gallery Walk.

Other participants in the monthly walks include Shapiro's Gallery, Florida CraftArt, the Duncan McClellan GalleryCraftsman House and the Morean Arts Center. These downtown favorites feature fine art and crafts made by artists working in all media. Shop during regular business hours or during the gallery walks for oils, sketches, multimedia, glass, clay, metal sculpture and jewelry. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to bring home a special handcrafted souvenir (or two) to remind you of your trip.

Wander about St. Petersburg's Grand Central District to find an array of antiques and collectibles shops scattered along Central Avenue, including Buster's Antiques, Patty And Friends Antique Village Mall with over 70 stalls and Janet's Antiques - a 5500-square-foot shop with vintage furniture, art, jewelry, toys, pottery and lighting from more than 20 professional dealers.

St. Pete Beach and Pass-a-Grille

If you’re looking for a unique souvenir for your beach vacation, look no further than St. Pete Beach’s historic Corey Avenue district. Here, you’ll find a variety of fun boutiques, art galleries and eateries.

Spend some time in Corey Corners, which offers more than 2,600 square feet of antiques, collectibles, vintage jewelry and more.

Safety Harbor

Located on Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor, the Syd Entel Galleries specialize in high-end glass art, but also feature paintings, limited-edition prints and sculptures.

Antiques to Aardvarks on Main Street sells a wide range of aged accents and collectibles--from china and crystal to music boxes and lamps.

Clearwater

Studio 1212 Art Gallery in Clearwater is the Tampa Bay area’s oldest artist cooperative. In addition to its regular hours, the gallery holds events such as workshops and “open critiques” during which the public can bring receive feedback on their own artwork.

Nestled next to a residential area, you’ll find Antique Alley in Belleair Bluffs. This tight village of one-story buildings holds more than a dozen individual shops, making antiquing not only fun but also convenient. Check out one store that specializes in Oriental rugs, or if Civil War relics are more to your taste, you'll find another shop that purveys them. When hunger strikes, head to any one of several nearby restaurants.

Gulfport

For those looking to browse rather than create, Gulfport hosts its popular art walks along Beach Boulevard on the first Friday and third Saturday of each month. Like the St. Pete events, art walks here are fun ways to shop and meet the artists, listen to live music and dine at great restaurants.

The highly walkable downtown district of Gulfport is a vintage and antique hunter’s dream. Gulfport favorites include the Beach Bazaar – featuring an assortment of second-hand items as well as a post office – and the Small Adventures Bookshop, which offers hard-to-find titles as well as paperback adventures in a cozy cottage context.

Dunedin

Dunedin's downtown is famously pedestrian-friendly and artsy. Art venues dedicated to working artists include Stirling Commons, which houses an art studio, gallery, specialty shops and a deli; and the Institute for Creative Arts, which features artist studios and galleries displaying everything from stained glass to photography. Also check out the locally owned The Painted Fish Gallery  which showcases works by local and national artists.

Dunedin boasts a sprinkling of antiques shops among the many restaurants and art galleries that can be found in its eclectic downtown. From affordable trinkets to vintage decor, you’ll discover a range of unique merchandise to bring home. Birdie’s Coastal Cottage is known for its shabby chic feel and eclectic finds, while Amanda Austin Antiques peddles everything from vintage china and glass to linens and home decor. You'll also find a treasure trove of antiques from over 100 dealers in Knot On Main Street and from 15 dealers at the Antique Mall of DunedIn.

Tarpon Springs

The Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Tarpon Springs Art Association joined forces to shape an upscale art gallery in the heart of the Art and Antique District - Artists' Faire Fine Art Gallery & Gifts where you can enjoy the work of local artists and artisans, including paintings in all media, photography, prints, jewelry, textiles, painted glassware and fine wood clocks.

For a different spin on glass as fine art, head to La Mancha Glass Gardens, featuring artist-created glass doors with imagery ranging from Samurai warriors to tropical birds, carved glass sculpture, etched tempered glass shower enclosures, glass portraiture and lighted carved glass.

There are several antiques stores and malls within the same block in historic downtown Tarpon Springs. The Court of Two Sisters, featuring more than 30 vendors specializing in goods from the Victorian era to the 20th century, is a good place to start. If you’ve saved any energy after antiquing, wander past downtown to the Sponge Docks along Dodecanese Boulevard for even more shops and restaurants.
