NOTE: THE PIER IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED. However, Sunsets at Pier 60 is still taking place every evening in the area in front of the pier.

Pier 60 is a top attraction in the area, with a 1,080-foot fishing pier and a recreational park with telescopes and covered pavilions. The Pier 60 bait house offers bait, fishing tackle, T-shirts, souvenirs, drinks and snacks, as well as rental equipment. Staff members are knowledgeable and eager to assist visitors. Pier 60’s many lights make it ideal for night fishing. Kids will love the shaded playground, one of largest beach playgrounds on the west coast of Florida.

Sunsets at Pier 60, a Clearwater Beach tradition, offers entertainment every night, from two hours before sunset until two hours after sunset. The beautiful view of the sunset makes for a perfect way to celebrate the end of the day. The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.

Spend the Day at the Beach

Chances are, there’ll be seabirds aplenty diving into the surf for a snack. St. Pete/Clearwater’s iconic pelicans are always perched near wherever the fish are – and you can often get close enough for a good picture. If you’re lucky, dolphins will be playing in the surf (or use one of the coin-operated telescopes to find them frolicking in the distance). If you’re really lucky, you may spot a Florida manatee swimming along the coast – in the summer months, a manatee sighting is more common than you might think.

If your crew works up an appetite from all the fun you’re having at Pier 60, have no fear: you have tons of options within walking distance. Keep it simple with the on-site concessions, or venture out.

For some of the best views in town, head to Jimmy’s Crow’s Nest for happy hour. Crabby’s Dockside is a mainstay for fried seafood appetizers and other coastal crowd-pleasers. Clear Sky Café is a tried-and-true spot for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner favorites such as crab hushpuppies, grouper, pasta dishes, and sushi/raw bar options. The ever-popular Frenchy’s has multiple locations nearby, including beachfront Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill. For top-notch date-night options, head to Caretta on the Gulf (it’s part of the luxurious Sandpearl resort) or Bob Heilman’s Beachcomber. And the relative newcomer to the beach, Three Daughters Brewing Clearwater Beach, offers local craft brews and a terrific view.

Getting to Pier 60

Pier 60 is at the western end of a major roadway that bisects the state. That same road also happens to run right by Tampa International Airport, making getting here from across the bay a straight shot via the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

From points north and south in St. Pete/Clearwater, U.S. 19 will get you to State Road 60, which is also called Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard here. For a more scenic route, take Gulf Boulevard, which lines the beaches of St. Pete/Clearwater.

No car? No problem. The Suncoast Beach Trolley runs up and down Gulf Boulevard between St. Pete Beach and Clearwater Beach, then turns inland for its terminus in downtown Clearwater.

There’s even a ferry that brings passengers from downtown Clearwater to Clearwater Beach, where passengers can disembark just steps from Pier 60 in just 15 minutes.

Parking Near Pier 60

You’ll find ample paid spots in a parking lot situated right at Pier 60, but the parking garage attached to the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach is also a good spot (bonus: your car will be shaded all day – a huge plus in summer). You might even be able to snag one of the nearly 400 spots along the street. Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina is also a good option, as are a handful of public lots within a few blocks of the pier. Wherever you end up leaving your wheels, expect to pay around three dollars per hour.
