For three wonderful days, the free Treasure Island Kite Festival will feature show kites and sport kites on the beach at Treasure Island.

When: January 16-18, 2026

Where: 10700 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island, Florida 33706

Time: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

If your winter calendar could use a little color (and a whole lot of joy!), set your sights on Treasure Island along Florida’s Gulf Coast for the Treasure Island Kite Festival, happening January 16–18, 2026. Set against the wide, breezy beaches behind the historic Thunderbird Beach Resort (note: the hotel is currently closed), this free, three-day festival turns Treasure Island’s sandy shoreline into an aerial gallery of motion, creativity, speed and spectacle.

What will I see at the Treasure Island Kite Festival?

By day, look up to see giant show kites soaring overhead, from whimsical inflatables like smiling sea creatures to intricate handmade designs. Sport kites zip and dive in choreographed performances set to music, while kite teams and solo flyers show off aerial stunts that seem to defy gravity. Whether you’re a seasoned kite flyer or just discovering the magic of a kite catching the wind, this festival welcomes everyone.

This year’s expanded sport kite competition includes Youth, Novice and Open divisions, making it an exciting place to watch emerging talent kick off the season.

As evening falls, the experience becomes even more magical. Illuminated kites light up the sunset-hued sky, swirling with glowing colors as fantastical characters dance above the sand. It's an unforgettable sight for all ages.

Plan your trip to Treasure Island for a weekend of sun, fun, wind and wonder.
