Nothing says “vacation” like whiling the hours away by lingering over your favorite drink. And when that drink is coffee or tea, nothing feels cozier than a neighborhood haunt. In St. Pete and nearby, indie coffee shops and teahouses serve up a mix of locally and globally sourced drinks and food, a relaxing atmosphere and souvenir potential, particularly when the coffee beans are roasted in-house.

Black Crow Coffee, St. Pete

Black Crow Coffee serves up delicious brew and pastries in a courtyard setting in the Grand Central District – or grab a cup at its flagship Old Northeast location.

Cozy, eclectic, vintage, community-minded ... these are just a few words to describe this sweet little coffee shop tucked away in the historic Old Northeast neighborhood of St. Pete (there's a second location in St. Pete's Grand Central District). Order a specialty latte blend such as the Purple Haze (a blend of dark chocolate and hazelnut) and settle down in an old armchair. Be sure to sample one of their beautiful pastries, too. Other quirky features at Black Crow Coffee include a book-lending library, community piano and guitar, and a card-catalogue system to track your orders, like an old-school version of a loyalty punch card.

Grove Surf Cafe, Indian Rocks Beach

Grove Surf Cafe (in Indian Rocks Beach) and the original location, Grove Surf and Coffee (in St. Pete Beach), both offer up delicious lattes and breakfast bowls. 

Locally famous for its toasted coconut latte, this adorable little family-run spot is located in quiet Indian Rocks Beach. You'll find plenty of excellent coffee, espresso and tea options (including a nod to Florida with an orange vanilla latte), as well as breakfast sandwiches, a yogurt and fruit parfait, and tasty sandwiches (the roasted beet sandwich with goat cheese is a standout, as is the caprese). This spot is kid-friendly, too, so order a grape Uncrustable and a juice box for your little one. Don't miss its original location in St. Pete Beach, too, Grove Surf & Coffee.

Indian Shores Coffee Co. is a favorite with visitors. Stop by on your way to Sand Key Park.

Grab a seat in the garden of this popular Indian Shores spot, and sip some house-roasted organic espresso (if you’re a purist) or a flavored latte drink. An eclectic coffeehouse located on a barrier island, Indian Shores Coffee Co. also serves homemade baked goods (there are no less than 11 types of muffins, three of them gluten-free), smoothies and sandwiches.

Café Vino Tinto in downtown Safety Harbor bills itself as a “farm-to-cup” coffeehouse, serving up a wide selection of coffee drinks made with beans sourced from the café’s very own farm in Costa Rica. The breakfast-and-lunch spot features a menu of seasonal lattes and other hot and cold caffeinated delights in a laid-back and charming atmosphere. Sip your drink with a freshly made waffle or egg dish.

Paradeco Coffee Roasters offers standout coffee in a very stylish little shop.

A block and a half west of the St. Pete Pier, stylish Paradeco Coffee Roasters was named a finalist a few years ago for the “Best Designed Café in the Americas" by Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. The coffee in this Instagrammable dig is sustainably sourced and house-roasted, and the menu is far from ordinary. Who’s craving an Immunity Booster Chia Seed Pudding, Kimchi Potato Hash or Cacao and Chaga Overnight Oats?

Hogg Batch Gold Bar, St. Pete

Hogg Batch Gold Bar offers an upscale coffee tasting experience.

Twin brothers David and Duane Hogg have been respected makers of barrel-aged coffee in St. Pete since 2020, but Hogg Batch Gold Bar is a relatively new concept: an upscale tasting room offering luxury coffee experiences. It's an intriguing idea in a city that has a long-standing love affair with coffee. At press time, the Gold Bar was open weekends only (Fridays through Sundays from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.) at Grand Central Brewhouse, but hours may shift, so check the website.

Daycation has a loyal following of locals who appreciate its creative drinks.

This tiny Asian-inspired spot in downtown St. Pete serves up some big flavors. Case in point: their Morning Forest drink made with matcha imported from Japan, espresso and house-made jasmine syrup (in fact, all their syrups are house-made). In addition to espresso-based drinks, there are plenty of other refreshing options including cold brews, premium teas, matcha and hojicha.

Head over to this family-run spot in quiet Seminole and warm up your day with the House Made Dark Mocha or a Sweet and Salty Latte (the salted caramel is house-made). Prefer your java cold? It's the "Ice Ice Baby" for you with vanilla bean and caramel syrup. Are you a kid at heart? Order the "Sugar Baby," a cold double espresso with lemon-lavender syrup and a gummy bear. The cafe serves breakfast items all day (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and offers some tasty sandwich options, too, like the Chicken Chipotle Melt on ciabatta.

An hour or two at Patrona Coastal Café feels like you’ve put out your “do not disturb” sign and embarked on a Florida vacation full of coastal vibes, waterfront views, tropical greenery, tiki huts and laid-back patio spaces. Patrona's coffee follows suit – featuring indulgent flavors like cinnamon, caramel, banana and brown sugar incorporated in some of its menu items. Named after a Thai form of urban transportation, Cafe Tuk Tuk in downtown St. Pete serves fresh brews from a charming coffee cart at Central Ave. and 1st Street. This European-inspired espresso cart offers a no-frills, simple menu including lattes, americanos, matcha, tea or chai. Tuk Tuk also “pops up” in various places around town, so make sure to keep an eye out for their white and blue caffeine-on-wheels ride! Talk about grabbing a coffee “to go.”

This EDGE District pop-up-turned-brick-and-mortar is a coffee shop by day and a craft cocktail bar by night. Kahwa’s approach to coffee won over so many locals that owners Raphael and Sarah Perrier now operate seven locations in in St. Pete. Order coffee drinks and pastries – sourced from local businesses and delivered fresh – as well as coffee by the pound. Ask your barista about the special roast of the week. It might be the Perriers' coveted mocha java blend or a single-origin selection.
