Walk along Dodecanese Boulevard to see docked sponge boats, shops selling seas sponges and restaurants serving up authentic Greek cuisine. The early sponge industry created a need for eating places at the Docks for the boat crews. Soon, as news of this unusual industry spread, people began to come to the Docks to see the sponges. Shops opened so that the tourists could purchase sponges and other souvenirs. The tourism industry blossomed in Tarpon Springs. Some of the original shops remain at the Docks today, owned by the same families that started them. Through the years more shops have opened, putting the number at well over 100 today. There are approximately fifteen restaurants in the Sponge Docks area, several of them internationally known.

One of my most favorite places to get out and walk, relax, see the sites, we always eat at Mama's Greek Restaurant which has amazing cod fish sandwiches! Love to stock up on my scented soaps and sponges while there. It is the most enchanting place and if time permits the sponge boat ride over to the little uninhabited island to do a bit of shelling is always fun. It's truly a happy place to visit! Friendly people, great stores!
We had a great time in Tarpon springs. The food is great and the atmosphere. I will warn you. It's super hot and barely any shade. Brings water, sunscreen and a hat. God Bless!
Perfect spot to find treasures and the soaps smell Ahhhmazing! Also ate at Nikkos and that was delightful! Mediterranean flavors that really hit the spot! Pork on a stick, fried zucchini cakes, crispy hot bread to dip in oil w/ seasonings & of course gyros with tziki. Highly recommend! ❤️🧡💛💚
Great walkable town. Seeing the sponge fishing boats was super interesting. Lots of great shops and so many delicious dining choices. Highly recommend as a day trip.
I'm totally in love with this place. If I didn't live so far, I'd be there every weekend sitting on the benches overlooking the water. The shops are ideal for unique finds, that make you feel like you're in a small town in Greece. The restaurant are definitely a must try all offer a special dish. Please don't skip this place, thank me later.
