Crab Shack Restaurant

Very disappointing experience. We came here expecting fresh seafood, but left extremely disappointed. We ordered mussels that were advertised as being served in a garlic sauce, but instead they arrived swimming in plain oil with almost no garlic flavor at all. We also ordered a dozen oysters. They were unusually large and not enjoyable. On top of that, our table of four received only one small lemon wedge. We had to ask for more, which should have been provided from the beginning. I ordered a Greek salad, and it was nothing like a traditional Greek salad. It was topped with mashed potatoes, which was completely unexpected and ruined the dish. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was also concerning. There was an unpleasant odor that smelled like a restroom, the exhaust vents above the dining area were covered in dust and grime, and the servers’ shirts looked wet and dirty. Sitting under dirty vents while eating seafood was not a pleasant experience. In my opinion, this restaurant is in serious need of cleaning and renovation. Based on my visit, I honestly don’t understand how it has so many positive reviews. I hope management takes these issues seriously and improves both the food quality and the overall cleanliness.

We went to the Crab Shack after looking at the reviews. Most of the complaints dealt with the ambiance, and we didn’t mind a dive so we checked it out. The restaurant isn’t bad, but the food wasn’t great either. I had blackened snapper and it was a bit overcooked, more charred than blackened, I’d recommend sticking to the fried options. I thought seriously about the Swamp Combination (frog legs, gator, and catfish), and I’d do that if I go back. The service staff was very friendly, and they have $2 domestic beers during happy hour.

The Crab Shack was such a cool place to eat- like a festive shack- right on the Gandy and so close to the water. As soon as we walked in we got nothing but smiles and welcoming greetings from everyone. The food was wonderful- we had appetizers, salad- very average salad- but the Seafood Combo and the Seafood Pasta was so good! The fried Shrimp platter was also good and got lots of it! We left a dollar on the wall and had a great time hearing stories from Renee- she was great! We will be back!

We had a great experience at this crab shack! The staff was friendly and attentive, and the laid-back atmosphere made it a fun place to enjoy a meal. They handled our party of 12 perfectly!
