Capt Yak offers year-round guided Day and Sunset Kayak Tours just ten minutes from St. Pete Beach. Day Tour departure times are based on the tide and weather to ensure the easiest and most enjoyable paddle.
On the Shell Key Day Tour We will paddle through mangrove tunnels, across flats, and spend time on Shel Key where you can swim or do some shelling. During this trip you will see an abundance of wildlife that can include; cormorants diving around and under your kayak catching fish, pelicans crashing into the water for their next meal, mullet jumping and horseshoe crabs scurrying along the bottom. You might even get lucky and see dolphin and manatee. Capt Yak will share his knowledge of the wildlife, plants and history of Shell Key Preserve. He will also share some of the local and state history that has influenced the area.
The one-of-a-kind Capt Yak Sunset Tour experience departs 1 -1/2 hours prior to Sunset! Capt Yak will guide you through the Preserve on comfortable tandem kayaks to watch the Amazing Sunset from Shell Key, an undeveloped barrier Island across from Ft. Desoto. For the return trip you will find your kayaks lit up underwater that will allow you to see the fish darting around. You will also be provided glow necklaces that adds to the experience. Throughout the tour Capt Yak will immerse you with local history, ghost stories and provide facts about the wildlife and preserve. Tide levels permitting we will paddle through one of the mangrove tunnels.
