Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum
The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum of Florida is a beacon of history as a cultural institution in the Deuces Live District. The museum is named in honor of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, an esteemed historian and author known as the Father of Black History Month for initiating the first Black history celebration in 1926.
Today, Dr. Woodson’s legacy lives on through the museum’s commitment to preserving local Black history while elevating the achievements of African Americans nationwide. Throughout the year, the museum hosts art events and live performances – from jazz nights in The Legacy Garden and monthly Artwalk events to art exhibits that highlight the global diaspora.
Beyond its exhibitions, art events and cultural programming, the museum is also an inspiring venue for weddings, parties and special events. If you’re planning an intimate gathering, use the museum’s indoor spaces and gallery so your attendees can be surrounded by historical artworks. The Legacy Garden located behind the museum offers an outdoor venue for larger celebrations, featuring magnolia trees, a rose garden, a flowing fountain and more. This garden oasis at the Woodson is perfect for parties, outdoor gatherings and weddings, where guests can experience African American heritage while making lasting memories.
Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering inside the museum’s gallery or hosting a grand celebration in its outdoor garden, let the Woodson Museum set the stage for your next event at a venue where community and culture intersect.
