Top Things to Know About the Dunedin Highland Games & Festival

Each year, the city of Dunedin honors its Scottish heritage with a day of events from Bonnie Scotland!

Scottish heavyweight athletics are a favorite, with events tossing cabers and sheaf bags. Large stones, hammers, and weights are also thrown in good-hearted sport.

There will be piping, drumming, pipe bands and Highland dancing competitions with some of the best entrants in the country. Sheep dogs will show off their herding prowess and the sheep are just plain cute!

Workshops for bagpipes, drums and dancing are offered, or you can take a stroll around the Clan Village where vendors will display traditional and modern Scottish goods. Don’t leave without a bit of tartan to wear to show your Celtic pride.
