Wide Open Beaches!

last updated on Thursday, September 2, 2010

The St. Pete Clearwater area is delighted to announce it was never impacted in any way by the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. All of our accommodations, restaurants and attractions---as well as our 35 miles of award-winning beaches---are open and waiting for you.

Book With Confidence

We're so confident that our coastline will remain completely unaffected, local hoteliers are offering a St. Pete/Clearwater "Book With Confidence" guarantee, which makes visitors a simple promise: if you arrive to find our pristine beaches affected by the oil spill in any way, your first night is 100% on us---taxes and resort fees included. It's that simple---just look for the "Book With Confidence" guarantee on the individual accommodation listings on our website to find participating partners, and make your summer getaway plans today. See accommodation listings.

In addition to our guarantee, travel giant Orbitz.com has partnered with a number of area hotels to offer an Open Beach Guarantee, which promises full refunds on standalone hotel reservations if any beach within 20 miles of that hotel is closed due to oil. Similarly, Hilton Worldwide recently announced a Beach Satisfaction Guarantee, which waives cancellation and early departure fees if your stay is affected by the spill.

Feathery Friends

We aren't the only ones who are confident we will remain unaffacted. Wildlife officials recently released 32 brown pelicans that were rescued from the oil slick in Louisiana. The birds were thoroughly cleaned and transported to their new home right here in our own backyard. With no threat of oil impacting area beaches in any way, we were thrilled to welcome our new feathered friends to our little slice of paradise. Cassidy Lejeune, a biologist with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, said he was confident these beautiful birds would do well in their new home.

Clean Gulf and Beaches
