Do Independence Day the St. Pete/Clearwater Way!

Low-key definitely doesn't need to be BO-RING. Whether you're a visitor, a local, or someone who's dreaming of your next St. Pete/Clearwater getaway... we've rounded up some inspiration to plan a Fun Fourth Party (or to make note of local businesses and products to check out on your next trip here). Let's go!

Urban Brew and BBQ in St. Pete

Yummy BBQ from Urban Brew and BBQ

Start your planning at Urban Brew and BBQ because Independence Day and barbeque are a match made in foodie-holiday-heaven. Try savory smoked baby back ribs, brisket and chicken, and choose from delicious sides such as cornbread, red potato salad and sweet potato souffle. They even offer a family platter that includes three meats and two sides for $74. There's an open-air patio, or order takeout and take the party home.

Air Beer at Dunedin Brewery

Beer, Made of Air?

Well, not exactly. But Dunedin Brewery's "air" beer is indeed light - only 4.2 alcohol by volume. So skip the American classic (Budweiser) and pick up a supply of this tongue-in-cheek take on the lager. It's made by Florida's oldest microbrewery. Now that's something to celebrate!

Hyppo gourmet popsicles on Central Ave. in St. Pete

Get the Party Started - The Hyppo is Here

From a popsicle perspective, you just haven't lived until you've had a pop from The Hyppo. An institution on Central Ave. in St. Pete, The Hyppo offers totally cool flavors such as Pistachio Coconut, Pineapple Cilantro and Blackberry Goat Cheese. If you want to go holiday-themed, pick flavors in shades of red, white and blue. Whatever you choose, just be sure to place your Fourth of July order by 9 a.m. on June 29 for guaranteed delivery by the holiday. Or grab a cooler and head on down to the store to peruse the pops in person.

Hard seltzer from Green Bench Brewery in St. Pete

3 Daughters Brewing Hard Seltzer "Beach Box"

3 Daughters Brewing is, of course, best know for beer. That said, you'll find some impressive newcomers on their libation menu, including four flavors of Florida Hard Seltzer - orange, lemon-lime, raspberry and cranberry. All but cranberry have a light alcohol value, meaning they're well suited to a holiday that is often A BIT WARM. Pick up a "Beach Box" (either at 3 Daughters in St. Pete or at your local Publix store) with the four flavors and discover their refreshingly light taste.

fourth of july cocktail made with vodka from St. Pete Distillery

Create Your Own Craft Cocktail

Craft cocktails have never been bigger - so here's your chance to be on-trend, on the holiday! St. Pete Distillery has some fab recipes online, or make up your own (perhaps some vodka, a mixer and a Hyppo popsicle for a gorgeous garnish?). Find their spirits - including sweet corn whiskey, tropical gin, spiced rum and more - at the distillery's store, order online, or head to Publix or ABC liquors. While you're being creative, remember also to be environmentally conscious: Opt for reusable straws, available for purchase in store or online from St. Pete's Sans Market. A straw set is only $9.99 and includes two straws, a straw cleaner and a cute case.

fourth of july flower arrangement by Posie's Flowers in St. Pete

The Flowers Make the Table, Dahling

We've all heard of food trucks. But a flower truck? Now, that's charming. Add the cutest name ever (Posies Flower Truck) and an old-fashioned, cornflower-blue truck just full of vintage blooms, and you've got a winner. Stephanie, the owner of Posies, sells fresh-cut flowers at pop-up venues, but she also does custom arrangements (just call ahead and chat about what you'd like). You'll have something beautiful no other holiday hostess can claim.

watermelon on a plate

What a Holiday! Watta-Melon!

A July 4th meal just wouldn't be the same without some cool, sweet watermelon. Sure, you could pick one up at the grocery store. But, if you plan ahead, you can buy a super-delicious, just-picked watermelon (and lots of other fresh produce, too), and support local farmers while you're at it! The St. Pete Saturday Morning Market has moved to its summer location at Williams Park, so stop by on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for some fresh produce.

Agua Bucha drink from Mother Kombucha in St. Pete

The Mother (Kombucha) of All Drinks

Maybe you're the designated driver. Or maybe the idea of a 4-calorie sparkling water that's infused with (say what?!) kombucha has thrown you right over the top. No matter the reason, you're going to love Mother Kombucha's all-organic Agua Bucha, sold in key lime, grapefruit and Meyer lemon flavors. It's crisp, it's refreshing and it won't weigh you down. Made in St. Pete, Mother Kombucha products are available at Publix stores throughout Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, at health food stores, or you can have some shipped to you.

patriotic cake from Frida's Cafe & Bakery

Save Room for Dessert

This year, dessert can be more than delicious - make it red, white and blue, too! Order this amazing fruit tort from Frida's Cafe & Bakery in Largo, or opt for their fun flag cookies! Be sure to order in advance and indicate "4th of July Flag" in the special instructions.
