Simmer & Sift at Museum of Fine Arts
Treat your taste buds to a culinary masterpiece with the new "Simmer & Sift" four-part series at the Museum of Fine Arts, where guests will enjoy flavor-filled food tastings, signature drinks and live demonstrations by four of Florida's most seasoned chefs. Closing out the series is Chef Norman Van Aken, the executive chef-owner of 1921 by Norman Van Aken and a James Beard semifinalist. He has been called "the culinary Titan of Florida" and is one of the founders of New American Cuisine. Van Aken has been featured everywhere from Jimmy Kimmel Live to The New York Times and has published five cookbooks. A book-signing will follow his demonstration. In addition, award-winning historian, Gary Mormino, will provide guests with a feature presentation on Florida cuisine where he will discuss the "Ten Foods that Define Modern Florida." Dr. Mormino has served as a professor of history at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and was named the 2003 Humanist of the Year by the Florida Humanities Council.
