Dali & Beyond Film Series: Simon of the Desert
This special feature for the Dali & Beyond Film Series showcases Simon of the Desert, a film made by Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Bunuel. Though he likely did not know Frida Kahlo, Bunuel left his mark on the Mexican surrealist movement. Simon of the Desert is his wicked and wild take of the life of devoted ascetic Saint Simeon Stylites, who waited atop a pillar surrounded by a barren landscape for six years, six months, and six days, in order to prove his devotion to God. This short and sweet satire is one of the master filmmaker's most renowned works of surrealism.
