Dali & Beyond Film Series: Beast of the Southern Wild
The Dali & Beyond Film Series features an eclectic selection of films – both familiar and fantastic. April's film feature magic realiism, which is a genre associated especially with Latin America that expresses a primarily realist view of the world while adding or revealing magical elements, including this feature: Beasts of the Southern Wild. Six-year-old Hushpuppy lives with her father, Wink, in a remote Delta community. Wink is a stern taskmaster, but he is preparing his young daughter for the end of the world. When Wink falls mysteriously ill, nature seems to fall ill with him. Temperatures rise, the ice caps melt and fearsome prehistoric beasts called aurochs run loose. The free screening begins at 1 p.m. at the Dali Museum in St. Pete.
