Tiny-yet-perfect coquina shells should be gathered gently. A spectrum of colors swirls through each shell—something that is apparent only up-close, when placed atop palms. On the beaches of St. Pete/Clearwater, lucky visitors may see hundreds of live coquinas surfing in on waves, then comically turning on end to dive into the soft sand.
