Meet the Sea Turtles of Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Get up close with marine animals at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, including the resident sea turtles of Mavis’ Rescue Hideaway. Here you can meet Harold “Mavis,” a star of “Dolphin Tale 2,” along with other sea turtles that have been rescued by CMA. You’ll find Stubby swimming here too—he was rescued from a fishing line entanglement, along with Cupid, who was found stranded in 2010. Madam, was born and raised as part of a captive breeding program, and Ula is a permanent resident because she is unable to stay submerged.
About Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s Rehab Programs
The aquarium is renowned for its rehabilitation efforts and mission to rescue, rehab and release. Rescued marine animals receive the maximum level of care at CMA’s hospital, where a team of experienced staff biologists, veterinarians and volunteers develop a recovery plan for each animal, eventually releasing them to their natural habitat. If injuries are too severe, and the animal is unable to be released, they become a permanent resident of the aquarium, serving as an ambassador for their species to promote environmental conservation.
During your visit, catch a behind-the-scenes look at the Surgical Suite, where you can watch CMA’s medical professionals at work, performing everything from routine physicals of resident animals to emergency surgeries.
