Want to Know What a Florida Beach Vacation is Really Like?
It’s not all sun and sand – at least not in St. Pete/Clearwater, where you’ll find friendly charter boat operators poised to take you dolphin spotting. The largest collection of paintings by Salvador Dalí outside of Europe, at The Dalí Museum. Cool glass sculptures at the Chihuly Museum. Skysurfing (yes, skysurfing). Plus almost every night there’s a celebration of the sunset at local beach drum circles where people of all walks of life, locals and visitors, get together and bang the drum to cheer on Mother Nature.
Or, Want to Discover Things to do Near You?
Maybe you live in the area but you feel stuck in a rut. You know how it is when you live somewhere—you forget just how many cool things there are to do that are just minutes away. We understand, you get into a routine. We’re here to snap you out of it and inject you with ideas for a month of Sundays-worth of things to do.
Dolphin Cruises, Jetskiing, Kayaking, & Skysurfing
Paddle away in a quiet inlet surrounded by mangroves on a kayaking adventure. Or let someone else take the wheel and keep your eyes peeled for dolphins on a dolphin cruise. Soar above the Gulf of Mexico on a skysurfing excursion (we promise amazing views). Or rent a jet ski and zoom up and down the coast. Truthfully, you don’t have to choose between any of these—you can get out on the water in all these different ways with a new boating & watersport adventure.
Dreamy Beach Experiences
Chair facing the water, toes in the sand, and a drink in your hand. You don’t have to do much to enjoy the white-sand beaches of this part of the Suncoast of Florida. And you have so many to choose from, that you could stay in the area for a week and not get to visit all of them. From the southerly-located St. Pete Beach, to the family-friendly Madeira Beach, to Trip Advisor’s No. 4 beach of 2017, Clearwater Beach, you’ll need a little time to decide which ones you want to explore. Get a leg up with our list of award-winning beaches and all their amenities, and here’s another of the lesser-known hidden gem beaches of the area that are worth a trip to relax on.
As the day closes, you’ll find some beaches become populated with drum circles—a gathering of drummers, dancers, and nature-lovers with a chill atmosphere. One drum circle you may want to experience is the Treasure Island Drum Circle. Head for the Bilmar Beach Resort and follow the sounds of the drum…
Take a Break from the Sun in Two Cool Museums
Some days you want to escape the sun for a bit. Here are two ways to do that: stroll through these cool museums. The Dalí Museum, located in a stunning building in downtown St. Petersburg, is the largest collection of the surrealist’s art outside of Europe; here you can easily spend a quiet afternoon contemplating all those tromp l’oeil masterpieces you’ve seen in history books. Dale Chuhuly’s glass sculptures grace the halls of many international museums, but The Chihully Collection in St. Pete—the official permanent collection of Chihuly’s art—is housed in a building designed specifically to best view the work. The sculptures and the building’s architecture complement each other, making this less a museum and more an artistic experience. Since both of these museums are so close to one another, make a day of it and check them both out when you’re in the neighborhood!
