To serve as a resource for national and international media outlets, the Public Relations department writes and distributes area news releases and electronic newsletters, and staff members serve as spokespersons for St. Petersburg/Clearwater area tourism marketing efforts. Interested media can be added to the department emailing list by simply emailing their contact info to the PR departmental assistant, Peggy Gourley Peggy@VisitSPC.com.
The Public Relations department provides assistance to travel journalists on assignment by arranging itineraries and facilitating visits to the attractions, cultural venues and other points of interest that will be covered in their coverage of the area. Travel assistance (media rates/comps) is handled on a case-by-case basis and may vary with the particular media outlet, type and extent of coverage, time of year, etc. A letter of assignment and recent examples of travel or travel-related feature coverage must be provided in order to determine assistance levels.
Public Relations also conducts press trips, also known as familiarization (FAM) tours, which showcase the destination to the media and generate exposure worldwide. Interested media may be added to the department emailing list to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming press trip.
