St. Petersburg, FL 33701

This exhibition explores contradictions between idealistic images and life in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Photography was a key tool to promote party goals both internally and abroad, but did not always reflect reality. The photographs in Picturing a New Society describe virtues for a society that often existed only within pictures. Agriculture and rural areas, industry, the military, and the youth of the USSR were cornerstones of Soviet narratives of progress, and are represented in this exhibition. Photographers include Alexander Ustinov, Max Alpert, Emanuel Evzerikhin, and Georgi Zelma, among others.

Studio and Contemporary Glass on Florida's West Coast This exhibition contains over 100 works drawn from more than 10 collections located on Florida’s West Coast and will showcase some of the area’s best glass, rarely presented to the public, and will highlight the Museum’s recent acquisitions in glass, including major works by Therman Statom and Michael Glancy.
Description

The MFA has the only encyclopedic collection of art from around the globe and across the centuries on Florida's west coast. The approximately 18,000 objects include striking works by Monet, Gauguin, Renoir, Morisot, Cézanne, Rodin, Hassam, Bellows, O’Keeffe, and Andrew Wyeth. The number of paintings by Monet and O'Keeffe is a rarity for a Florida museum. Also on view are ancient Greek and Roman, Egyptian, Asian, African, pre-Columbian, and Native American art. The photography collection is one of the largest and most significant in the Southeast. There are two interior gardens, one dedicated to sculpture. The Museum has a regular schedule of special exhibitions, including those that have traveled to major museums. The MFA Cafe is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, and the Museum Store has been named "the best" by area media. Also a great place for holding special events like wedding receptions, the Museum has a terrace overlooking the beautiful St. Petersburg waterfront. Martha Stewart Weddings named the Museum of Fine Arts as the third most desirable location for wedding receiptions on the East coast of the United States in 2012.
