Verdi's Rigoletto presented by Teatro Lirico D'Europa with Symphony Orchestra
February 25, 2012

Pre-show lecture at 7pm - $3.50 with performance ticket.
Destinies collide as the womanizing Duke of Mantua and his vengeful court jester Rigoletto weave a fascinating drama of seduction, betrayal, curses and vendettas. Verdi creates an intriguing study in contrasts between good and evil, drama and comedy, honesty and deception. The physically deformed hunchback Rigoletto, sarcastic and vindictive, cursed by one he has mocked and condemned by his physical appearance to play the “fool,” is none the less a protective and loving father. Despite this nobler side of his character, Rigoletto’s desire for revenge results in tragedy.
