Description

The Pier Aquarium is a non-profit public aquarium and marine education center located at The Pier in downtown St. Petersburg. Primarily staffed by marine science students from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg College and the University of South Florida, College of Marine Science, visitors can explore diverse marine environments from around the world, starting with our own backyard in Tampa Bay and voyaging to the California Kelp Forests, the Caribbean and Pacific Coral Reefs.

Big on Education, The Pier Aquarium also offers a variety of fun, informative, "hands-on" scheduled Surf-n-Turf field trip programs to satisfy the curiosity of both young and old Monday-Friday from 10am-noon. Visitors experience our touch tank creatures, up close and personal every day 1-4pm.

For adults, we offer a free, quarterly science conversation night, SciCafe St. Petersburg at a local restaurant and bar. Past themes include: Caffeine May Be Good for You!; Nanotechnology: From Port Security to Sunscreen; Green Chemistry; A Sustainable Building: The Word is Photovoltaic, CSI Forensic Science: Fact or Fiction; the Gulf Oil Spill; the Ocean and Human Health: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly. www.pieraquarium.com/scicafe

Annual events include Spa Beach Splash (& Kite Festival), a free marine discovery day with our marine educators and staff of our educational and environmental partners, Sustainable Collaboration event(s) celebrating green dining and community sustainability and a Fish Head Ball fundraiser.
