Where to View the 2017 Solar Eclipse

Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime event when the first solar eclipse since 1918 is viewable in American skies on Monday, August 21.

The Tampa Bay area isn't in the path of totality, but you'll catch a good partial eclipse. Head to these solar eclipse events to get the best possible view!

If you're planning on viewing on your own, don't forget to wear solar glasses or view through a filter to safely view the eclipse; never look directly at the sun without a filter as it can cause damage to your eyes.

1 Watch the Eclipse at the St. Petersburg College Planetarium

The St. Petersburg College Planetarium is inviting starry-eyed viewers to watch the solar eclipse from the "quad" area of the St. Petersburg College/Gibbs Campus. The Seminole Community Library invites the public to join them on the lawn of St. Petersburg College to view the partial eclipse from 1:17 pm – 4:14 pm. Free solar viewing glasses will be available for attendees.

4 Beach Chair Eclipse Viewing at the St. Pete Beach Public Library

Pull up a beach chair and watch the show! The St. Pete Beach Public Library will host a Beach Chair Eclipse Viewing from 1 pm – 4:30 pm and will provide free eclipse glasses. They'll also host a pre-eclipse show for children ages 7-12 the prior Friday which will feature activities all about eclipses. Click here for more info.
