Quirky Gecko Fest

Gulfport Goes Gecko!

Celebrate the end of summer in a uniquely wacky way. Think of it as Mardi Gras meets the Renaissance -- then throw in a healthy dose of colorful gecko costumes and you’ll get a sense of this whimsical Labor Day weekend send-off to summer. Celebrating its’ 11th year in the funky town of Gulfport, Gecko Fest is your chance to dress like a lizard, wear your wildest hat and get out your favorite noisemakers.

Join the o-FISH-al GECKO Goddess and the Gecko Court along with other roving characters in the “walking parade”. Audience participation is encouraged at this family fun event that brings together strolling street performers, main stage performers, performing artists, crafts and vendors with all types of weird and wonderful wares. Additional activities include sidewalk chalk art, face painting, dance lessons and much more. This is your chance to join in or simply be an amused spectator.

And, although there is always plenty of food and drinks to be had at this day long festival, if you prefer to get off your feet for a while, here are a few places to try some local fare.

Backfin Blue Cafe
Dominic's Pizzaria
Habana Cafe
O'Maddy's Bar and Grille
Pia's Trattoria
