Natty Moss-Bond creates greeting cards and other folk art.
Long a local rock star, Natty Moss-Bond now creates functional folk art made from discarded items found at yard sales, thrift stores and sometimes even alleyways. This finalist in the Sundance Channel’s 2008 Big Ideas contest offers her “Rubbish” items at Cherie’s Eklectika in St. Petersburg, and at www.nattymossbond.com.
Natty started making greeting cards using a machine she picked up for $7; she sews cut-out images, used file folders and discarded plastic. Paintings such as “Why I Hate Chicken” highlight Natty’s colorful storytelling ability, while her whimsical Elvis shrines reflect her rock n’ roll roots.
“I think I became an artist because I can't stand waste,” she says. “I find beauty in even the simplest things.”
